OREGON, Ohio — The Sundance Drive-In is reopening Friday, ushering in a third screen and multiple renovations after previous owners closed the Oregon theater following the conclusion of the 2022 season. During the 2023 season the theater was operating under the name 'Parkside Drive-In' by a different management company.
The drive-in, located on Navarre Avenue, will improve picture and sound quality under new owner Todd Williams, according to a press release.
New additions are in the works, including a new screen, new playground equipment, new bathrooms in a separate building, new fencing throughout the property, a renovated concession stand with new menu items and an arcade.
The drive-in will kick off its reopening, part of the business's 75th anniversary celebration, with two new movies and two classics over the weekend. Screen 1 will show "Fall Guys" at 9:05 p.m. and "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" at 11:20 p.m. Screen 2 will show "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace" and "Alien" at 11:35 p.m.
Williams also owns the Memory Lane Drive-In in Monroe, Mich., which opening in 2021, according to an announcement on Sundance's Facebook page.
Williams also said the old women's restroom will be converted into a fair food stand.
Not all of the updates will be completed by reopening, though, according to Williams.
The Sundance Drive-In originally opened as the Parkside Drive-In in 1949.
