Tecumseh Public Schools announces next district superintendent

The selection process began after the district's superintendent of five years announced his retirement.

TECUMSEH, Mich. — The Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education has selected a new superintendent for the district.

The board unanimously voted for Matt Hilton, who has held various education positions in Ann Arbor and western Michigan since 2000, during a meeting Tuesday, according to a press release. The announcement came after Superintendent Richard Hilderley said he would retire at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

According to the release, Hilton was selected out of 23 candidates. The selection was made following a process that included rigorous interviews, the district said, and consultation from the Michigan Association of School Boards.

He has been the executive director of elementary education at Ann Arbor Public Schools since July 2021. Prior to that position, he was a principal and assistant principal at an elementary school in Ann Arbor from 2014-2021. His other work experience in education spans 25 years.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will make on our students, staff and community."
