TOLEDO (WTOL) - A plea deal was reached on Wednesday for a teen charged with killing a pizza delivery driver.
Machello Jackson, 16, entered an Alford Plea to aggravated murder to shooting Sadari Knighten, 28, back in June.
Prosecutors say Knighten was wrapping up her final delivery of the night, when she was ambushed by Jackson who demanded cash.
As she started to reach for a BB gun, she was shot in the chest.
The teen got away with 75 cents.
Knighten’s brother says his family has forgiven the teen.
“We can’t get her back, but his life can leave a legacy – if he does the right things from here on out. So once he is released, he can be an asset to our community,” said Sadari’s brother, Willie Knighten.
Knighten hopes this time behind bars, will serve as a wake-up call for Jackson.
“Being 16, he is really young. We believe in the criminal justice system and we believe in rehabilitation, so we want to give him a chance to change his life," he said.
Knighten says that he plans to visit Jackson in jail, to tell him his life is not over.
“I would really love to encourage him, and let him know, ‘You’ve been forgiven, man,’" Knighten said.
Jackson was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years served. He will be 36 when he is eligible for parole.
