Fire in Old West End home claims life of family dog

The owners were not home at the time of the blaze but came back to find their dog did not survive, according to fire officials at the scene.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A family dog passed away after flames broke out inside a home in Toledo's Old West End early Monday morning.

Toledo Fire & Rescue Department responded to a fire call around 3 a.m. on the 2300 block of Glenwood, north of Bancroft Street.

The owners were not home at the time of the blaze but came back to find their dog did not survive, according to fire officials at the scene.

No other injuries were reported by officials.

The Battalion Chief at the scene told WTOL the fire started in the back of the home and burned the stairwell. Other fire officials told WTOL the home is very old and faulty wiring may be a cause.

TFRD is investigating the cause of the fire.
