TOLEDO, Ohio — In Ottawa Hills Wednesday, the home of Lanette Cornell was the site of a special Valentine's Day performance meant to showcase love.
Cornell was treated to a song, along with desserts, a flower and a card, a package delivered from "The Voices of Harmony."
The barbershop quartet, based out of Alliance Church in Bowling Green, travels around the northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan region, hired by people to sing for their significant others.
"There's something about close four-part harmony that it just grabs you on the soul level," member Kerry Conrad said. " It's just so welcoming and it just makes you feel so happy to do it."
On Valentine's Day, Lanette Cornell's husband, Chuck, hired the quartet. She said the serenade made the day extra special, even though she knew about it ahead of time.
"It was still such a wonderful event," Cornell said. "I got to look forward to it, instead of being surprised, but it was great and he's (Chuck) a great guy."
Sharing music throughout the region brings the members of the quartet joy knowing that they are a part of people's day of love.
"It's the most wholesome hobby ever," member Jack Ellison said. "You can bring little kids and there's no conflict, everybody's nice, hardly anybody is dropping any curse words. It's just all togetherness."
After the quartet finished their song, there was still one thing left to do -- Cornell had to thank her husband for the special gift.
"I'm gonna give him a really big kiss to start with," she said.
