MONROE, Mich — A person was caught on camera stealing money from a tip jar at Tiffany's Pizza in Monroe Monday evening.
"Well, they were all pretty upset, you know, because they look forward to their tips every week at the end of the week," Tiffany Harper, owner of Tiffany's Pizza said.
Harper said the day the tips were stolen, they happened to be running a big promotion.
"People usually tip pretty generously on those days, so it was pretty full and everybody was back there busting their butts," Harper said. "We were busy all night, so it was pretty upsetting."
The restuarant shared video on Facebook, showing someone stealing tips from a jar.
According to Harper, she estimates hundreds of dollars were in the jar at the time the thief ran off with their tips in hand. It’s something even the customers are disappointed to learn.
"We like coming here, my girlfriends and I come here once a month," customer Marlene Cunningham said. "We were so shocked when we found out what happened because Monroe is such a unique little town but now having all kinds of issues here."
Tiffany's father, Tony Sacco, is the founder of Tiffany’s Pizza. He said in 45 years of doing business in Monroe, this kind of thing is rare.
"It's a very unique community. Everybody's very close, close knit and people just coming in droves, just giving the staff money, giving them items," Sacco said.
Harper said she hopes this doesn't happen again, but for now they'll be making sure their tip jar is more secured.
"You hate to see it because we all work so hard, and someone to just come in and just do something like that, it's heartbreaking,” Harper said.
