3 hospitalized, 2 seriously injured in major multi-vehicle crash in Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left three people injured Monday afternoon. 

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Schubert and Mansfield Road in Highland Township. 

Eugene Anderson, 45, of Gary, Indiana, was driving a Volvo with a flatbed trailer attached and approaching the intersection when he "failed to stop at a stop sign" and struck a Chevy Malibu, according to a press release from OSHP. 

The Chevy Malibu, driven by a 17-year-old, caught on fire on the side of the road. 

Anderson was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The 17-year-old driver was taken to the hospital by Defiance EMS with serious injuries. 

A 21-year-old passeneger inside the Chevy Malibu was taken to the hospital by Life Flight with serious injuries.
