Toledo Animal Rescue's pet food pantry helping keep families together without fear of food costs

With inflation and the cost of owning pets, the organization launched the pantry in hopes that it would keep pet owners from having to give up their furry friends.

TOLEDO, Ohio — An area non-profit is helping pet owners by providing food for their pets.

Steve Kiessling, director of Toledo Animal Rescue, said they've provided pet food for nearly 70 families totaling over 1000 pounds of cat and dog food so far this year.

With inflation and the cost of owning pets, the organization launched this pantry in hopes that it would keep pet owners from having to give up their furry friends.

"Often, people fall on hard times and they have to relinquish their pets because they can’t afford them," Kiessling said. "So for every animal, we get to keep at home. It’s one less animal that we have to bring in."

Kiessling said they've provided food for about 100 dogs and 125 cats.

He added that the pantry has enough dog food at the moment, but would like to receive more cat food.
