Sneak A Zucchini On Our Porch event: Toledo Botanical Garden accepting produce Thursday to help food pantries

In honor of "Sneak A Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch" Day, you can drop off excess produce at the Toledo Botanical Garden.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Botanical Garden will be collecting produce from local gardeners on Thursday to distribute to nearby food pantries.

Anyone can drop off their clean, homegrown produce anytime between 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the botanical garden located at 5403 Elmer Drive in Toledo. This event falls on "Sneak A Zucchini onto Your Neighbors Porch" Day, a holiday nationally celebrated by gardeners.

"In the future, we hope this event will encourage gardeners to connect with local food pantries and continue to donate excess produce throughout the growing season," said Amy Stone, Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator for Extension Lucas County. "This event is one way we can help support those neighbors in need and plant a seed to a healthier community"

Ohio State University Extension, Lucas County also offers gardening assistance through their Ask An Extension Master Gardener Program. Contact the horticulture hotline at 419-578-6783 or lucascountymastergardener@gmail.com. Extension Master Gardeners are available to answer questions every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April to October.
