TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo City Council member Katie Moline has been appointed Lucas County Auditor, she told WTOL 11.
The Lucas County Democratic Party's Central Committee tapped her to fill the position left vacant by Anita Lopez, who was appointed to the Board of Lucas County Commissioners at the beginning of January.
"I cannot wait to take on the duties of the Lucas County Auditor's office. I've been a (Certified Public Accountant) for a number of years and I am looking forward to this opportunity," Moline told WTOL 11.
Moline will serve the remainder of Lopez's term. The next election for county auditor will be in November, 2026.
Moline, who has served on council since 2020, will depart from her at-large council seat for the auditor position, leaving a second seat vacant after fellow at-large member Tiffany Preston Whitman accepted a city position to head the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
While Moline said has officially taken office, she will still need to be authorized by the state of Ohio.
Her official swearing-in is scheduled for Friday at noon in Lucas County Commissioners' Chambers.
Moline and Whitman's departures leave two of the six total at-large council seats vacant. Council has 12 members in total.
Editor's note: This story has been edited to correctly reflect that Moline was appointed, not elected.
