Toledo couple who own semi-pro football team are beginning to tackle a new field: Filmmaking

The couple have been co-owners of Toledo's only Black-owned semi-pro football team called the Glass City Tigers.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Kimberly Russell-Perryman and her husband Robert Henderson have been co-owners of the only Black-owned, semi-pro football team called the Glass City Tigers in Toledo for eight years.

Then they decided they wanted to check something new off their bucket list.

"It's been very fun for me because I'm at the gate, I'm Mama Tiger, so I love it a lot," said Kimberly Russell-Perryman, a co-owner of Glass City Tigers.

According to Russel-Perryman, she wears many different hats.

"As a woman, I'm stepping up for all our queens. It's been a lot, and I can do it. I'm just motivated, put it that way. I'm motivated," said Russell-Perryman.

In addition to being the co-owner of a Black-owned semi-pro football team, she's an up-and-coming star. She has been featured in 10 independent feature films. Some of those films include At What Cost and Untamed, filmed in Detroit.

"We just filmed for two films. In that film, I'm going to be an old lady, I'm like, how you going to make me be an old lady? So I had to go out and buy a white wig," said Russell-Perryman. "But it's just fun. Just being around these, oh my God, awesome actors and actresses."

She says she hopes young people watch her balancing act and realize you can do whatever you set your mind to.

Though it's not just her that's balancing multiple jobs. Her husband, Robert Henderson, is also acting and coaching.

"As a matter of fact, we filmed last week with Fake Love 313 last Friday. My wife just had a table reading the day before yesterday," said Henderson.

One of the players from the Glass City Tigers team, Kemonte Abrams, said Russell-Perryman and Henderson are simply class acts and good role models for everyone in the Toledo Community.

"I feel like we're giving back to the community," Abrams said. "Giving them an opportunity to stay out in the streets and come play football."
