Contingency plan implemented at Toledo Express due to humidity issue

The incident was resolved, but caused air traffic controllers to operate on a contingency plan - outside of the towers.

SWANTON, Ohio — Air traffic controllers at the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport were forced out of their towers last week due to a humidity issue in the cab, according to a spokesperson for the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. The issue has since been resolved.

"There was no impact to operations," Holly Kemler, director of communications for the Port Authority said.

Employees immediately moved to the airport's contingency plan, which involved operating out of an airport vehicle nearby, when unacceptable humidity level was detected.

A contractor repaired the issue and employees were back into the tower as of Saturday morning, according to the Port Authority.

The Federal Aviation Administration says on its website that the administration takes humidity measurements at all personnel work stations regularly to ensure the health, safety, and efficiency of the worker.
