TOLEDO, Ohio — An annual Toledo event is bringing the community together on Saturday for lessons that could save lives.

The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department's Annual Fire Safety Day is an initiative between the department and several community partners to outfit residents of all ages with equipment to avoid worst-case scenarios and the knowledge of what to do in those situations.

Safe Kids of Greater Toledo will be on hand to provide free bike helmets and free personal flotation devices, to keep kids safe on land or in the water.

Toledo residents can also pick up a free smoke alarm.

Activities include TFRD's Fire Safety Smoke House, which simulates the experience of being in a house fire, tours of the Toledo Firefighters Museum and face painting. You can meet Claudia the comfort dog and Soldier the fire canine with firefighter Josh, Toledo firefighters and Toledo police.

Representatives from other community organizations include Imagination Station, Toledo Zoo, Metroparks Toledo, CSX, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), 4-H Club and the Toledo Lucas County Public Library.

All ages are invited to attend.

Toledo Fire's Annual Fire Safety Day is Sept. 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Toledo Firefighters Museum, located at 918 W. Sylvania Ave. in Toledo.
