TOLEDO, Ohio — Two firefighters were injured in a house fire Friday morning, according to Toledo Fire and Rescue.
Crews responded to the 2300 block of Berdan Avenue in west Toledo round 3:40 a.m., according to a press release. The insulation in the wall on the first floor was smoldering from a possible electrical problem. The crew extinguished the fire, shut off the breaker, removed the insulation and advised the home owner to contact an electrician before restoring power to the outlet.
Crews were dispatched a second time to the same location at approximately 5:30 a.m. They found smoldering insulation further down the wall. After opening the wall, they removed insulation and wet down the area, TFRD said.
Later, shortly before 8 a.m., crews were dispatched to the location a third time regarding a fire. Firefighters initially combatted the fire from the interior of the building. Because the fire was difficult, crews had to be evacuated from the building. While crews continued to combat the fire, two firefighters were injured.
The injuries to both firefighters were non-life threatening. The fire remains under investigation by both the Fire Investigative Unit and an internal investigation, TFRD said.
