TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo is hoping to educate housing providers with an education fair on Thursday.
Hundreds of people are already registered for the city's first-ever Landlord Education Fair. The event is intended to help answer any questions a landlord might have, as well as educate housing providers about important laws and obligations pertaining to their role.
The inaugural event will be held at Toledo's Main Library in downtown Toledo from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Leaders with the city's Department of Housing and Community Development said it's important for housing providers to have a clear understanding of these rights - as well as their responsibilities. With the city's support, the event is intended to help everyone in Toledo have a safe and well-managed community, as well as create more housing stability for Toledo's residents.
"If you have a desire to be a landlord of a housing provider, or if you are just curious what a landlord can do," Toledo's Tenant Landlord Services Manager Coleena Ali said, offering reasons why someone might want to attend the event. "Maybe you are the tenant, and you're like, 'Well, can landlords really do that?', come and find out, learn about their responsibilities, learn about their obligations. There's truly an educational component to it."
Attending the fair is free. And while registration closes at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, you can still attend if you miss that deadline.
Registering gives you the opportunity to fill out a survey with the questions you may have.
During the event, which is geared toward first-time housing providers, experts from Toledo's Fair Housing Development, the Lucas County Auditor's Office and the county health department will be present. Also in attendance will be attorneys, legal aid and more.
The event will also provide booklets, templates, contacts and more.
"We are here to empower our landlords we want to provide them with valuable information and provide them with resources as well as support because we recognize that they play a significant role in our community," said Monica Smith, Toledo's Lead Safe Coordinator.
The Inaugural Landlord Education Fair will be held at Toledo's Main Library in downtown Toledo from 9:30am to 1:30pm.
City leaders said they hope the event will leave landlords with the tools for success in their endeavors.
