TOLEDO, Ohio — Emergency crews responded to the Toledo Police headquarters in downtown Toledo Wednesday morning after a non-toxic chemical leak was reported.
A Toledo police report stated crews were made aware of a "strange odor" and liquid dripping from a table in the building. It was described as a brown liquid seeping out of a metal can on top of the table, then ran down to the floor.
Toledo Fire and Rescue was contacted to investigate.
According to Toledo Fire and Rescue on the scene, crews responded to the Safety Building, located at the intersection of Erie and Jackson streets, around 8 a.m. Crews closed part of Jackson Street while they investigated.
Authorities on scene told WTOL 11 crews an irritant was producing an odorous gas. Crews determined the irritant was 3-Methylbutanol, a non-toxic irritant and alcohol-based solvent. They sent in a team to absorb the irritant, and the city said they were contacting a cleaning company.
TFRD said the incident was not a major leak, and nobody was hurt. Crews continued airing out the garage of the building, and said there were no major disruptions to police operations.
