Toledo Public Schools director of transportation accused of misappropriation of funds resigns

TPS senior director of transportation Cindy Fox resigned Friday while under internal investigation for alleged misappropriation of funds, according to the district.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A department head for Toledo Public Schools resigned Friday while under an internal investigation into allegations of misappropriation of funds.

TPS senior director of transportation, Cindy Fox, resigned from her position Nov. 15, according to district deputy superintendent James Gant.

"Toledo Public Schools was conducting an internal investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds by a staff member in the Transportation Department," Gant said, in part, in a statement Wednesday. "The employee in question resigned from the district last Friday which was a contractual right."

A TPS spokesperson confirmed that Fox is the employee who was the focus of the internal investigation, which was prompted by an anonymous tip.

Fox joined the district's treasurer's division as a data specialist-processor in 2016, according to a personnel file provided by TPS. In August 2018, Fox joined the transportation department.

She was promoted from acting executive director of transportation to senior director of transportation services Nov. 30, 2022. In a cover letter attached to her job application for senior director of transportation, Fox stated that she was "responsible for all financial obligations of the department."

As listed in her personnel file, Fox was making a total annual salary of $122,127.84, as of Aug. 1, 2024.

Gant did not specify when the alleged misappropriation may have occurred and did not say when the internal investigation began.

The findings of the internal investigation will be submitted to the state auditor for review, Gant said.

"Toledo Public Schools holds its employees to the highest professional standards and investigates any potential wrongdoing that negatively impacts the district," Gant said. "The district cannot comment further while the investigation continues."
