TOLEDO, Ohio — The Glass City is an ideal location for retirees to spend their days after leaving the workforce, according to the U.S. World & News Report.
The media company, which is known for publishing national rankings spanning a wide variety of topics, ranked Toledo as No. 19 in the best places to retire in the U.S. in 2024.
Toledo is only one of two Ohio cities -- the other being Youngstown at No. 9 -- to crack the top 20. Cincinnati is the next closest at No. 32. In Michigan, the highest-ranked place is Ann Arbor at No. 11.
The rankings are a scoring system based on public data and user opinions, according to the company's website. Criteria for the retirement list include the happiness of residents, housing affordability, tax rates and health care quality. For more details about the ranking's methodology, click here.
The Glass City received an "overall score" of 6.9/10. The No. 1 city, Harrisburg, Penn., received an overall score of 7.1/10.
Toledo was ranked as the No. 23 best place to retire last year and is ranked No. 84 in the best places to live in 2023-24.
