Toledo Reptile Show the place to be for creepy, crawly and, apparently, cuddly pets

From geckos and tarantulas to African Pigmy Dormice, there is something for every fan of unusual pets at the monthly Toledo Reptile Show.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Reptile Show features all manner of creepy crawly pets at the Knights of Columbus on Secor Road.

The show happens once a month and features animals you won’t necessarily see in your neighborhood pet store. Lizards, snakes, mice, and even spiders are all featured at the show.

It’s also a great place for enthusiasts to connect with each other and share information.

For newbies, it gives them a chance to dip their toes in the unusual pet world before finally diving in.

“A lot of people come in to learn about the different animals before they do purchase. So all of the vendors spend time talking to them, said Charles Cook, owner of the Toledo Reptile Show. ”Some of the vendors will allow you to hold some of the different animals that they have here at the show.”

The show is also about breaking stereotypes. No they aren’t fuzzy, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make good pets, according to …

“There's hundreds of snakes that you can hold, get comfortable with. They're not the big, scary noodles, and they don't eat people. They're lovely, you can cuddle with them,” said snake enthusiast Jordan Glow, who was at the show shopping for snakes. “They're fun to have, nice to have, fun to play with, and there's so much you can do with them, not just be scared of them.”

Convinced? If you want to find out for yourself the next show will take place on Saturday August 3. Admission is $5. Kids 10 and under get in free.
