TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) announced they'll be headed back to the classrooms for the 2020 to 2021 school year but, not all at once. Leaders say they'll be using the hybrid method.
Doug Mead, the Director at TSA, said as an arts school they depend on that face-to-face, hands-on interaction.
Getting back into the building was a no-brainer, but with the number of students and their building size, the only way to do that was reduce the number of people inside at any given time.
A hybrid model allows the school to provide that experience while still having protocols to protect their students and staff.
"So for those students that are still going to opt into some sort of face-to-face experience, they're going to be placed either in a track 'A' or track 'B'. So track 'A' will meet here on campus for two days a week. Track 'B' will meet for the other two days a week. The other three days will be supplemented with virtual instruction," Mead said.
TSA will be offering a third track, which is an opt-out and students would receive online instruction all five days of the week.
Families wanting to do the virtual option have until July 30 to register. Students planning to attend in-person will receive their track during schedule pick-up.
The school has also moved their start date back to the August 24. The director said the rest of their final plans and other information for families will be sent out in the next week.
