TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledoans are ready for St. Patrick's Day, and downtown Friday night many were dressed in green and already celebrating the weekend festivities.
The Blarney Irish Pub, at 601 Monroe St., is a Toledo staple of the holiday. Owner Ed Beczynski said, "St. Patrick's Day is really a kickoff for spring and summer and St. Patrick's Day is really our official day to kick off what's to come."
From beer to decorations to outfits — all green, of course — and the upbeat atmosphere, Toledo resident Beccie Sullivan looks forward to the fun every year.
"I come here every St. Patrick's Day. I come out to enjoy all of the festivities,” she said.
The festivities aren't something you'll see on a typical downtown weekend.
"Just a really good experience out here and a lot of people out here partying in the streets and a lot of people in kilts. I'm not going to miss that,” Sullivan said.
Not only is it a big weekend for bringing people to the area, it's a chance for businesses to get more exposure.
"We are always excited for big weekends like this," said Michael Stancati, owner of Hannon's Block Restaurant, located at 619 Monroe St. "It’s actually our three-year anniversary. We opened on St. Patrick’s Day in 2021."
While the fun started on Friday, many will be coming downtown all weekend long.
"I think the positive experiences we have every year, the people you meet and so much fun you have, everyone is here for a good time,” said Toledo resident Brandi Charlow.
