TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo zoo had a big celebration on Saturday for one of it's newest members.
The zoo held its 'Baby Elephant Baby Bash' for baby Kirk and his mom, Renee. Onlookers packed the zoo to celebrate, welcoming Kirk with peanut butter, Gatorade and even a bubble machine.
Visitors made cards and elephant-themed crafts to take home. Those who didn't attend the baby bash Saturday can still celebrate, as an Amazon Wishlist was created for the pair, including items like food, bath necessities and enrichment items for their enclosure.
Addressing the elephant in the room, Sarah Carpenter, Toledo Zoo's elephant manager expressed her love for the crowd's enthusiastic reception of Kirk.
"It's so cool to see everything packed and people cheering and excited. We have one little boy that brought a whole folder of cards for Kirk. It was really cute," said Carpenter. "So it's just cool to see everybody excited and just as excited as we are."

Kirk currently weighs a whopping 370 pounds. Carpenter estimates that he weighed about 240 pounds at birth. She also states that Kirk is still nursing from his mom, and loves playing with the hose in the elephant enclosure.
