TOLEDO, Ohio —
Mancy's Steakhouse has been serving up meals to Toledo diners for more than 100 years.
The owner of Mancy's says its more than just the food that has allowed them to be successful for so long. In their 103 years of service, they've always strived to treat their customers like family.
It would be interesting to see what the original owners of Mancy's would have thought about how far the family business has come in 2024. Especially since Mancy's comes from modest beginnings.
"The restaurant started out as an open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner in 1921, and then morphed into a steakhouse as the second generation took over in the mid-60s," said owner Gus Mancy.
As for what makes it special, Gus Mancy says it's all about sticking to what works.
"I think over the years, we've really stuck to the time-honored traditions and values that were established by our previous fathers and grandfather. We still butcher all our meat on premise, all our soups and sauces and dressings are made from scratch every day," said Mancy.
The people running the restaurant might be different. But the food is just as good as it was back in the day.
"So it's exciting to see a mix of people, middle-aged and older or younger, enjoying a steak at Mancy's," said Mancy.
Gus Mancy is a third generation owner who has been a managing partner with Mancy's Restaurant Inc for 35 years.
He says the people that have trusted them with their business have been what keeps the business going decade after decade.
Long-time customers like John Zalecki, who grew up in Toledo, has been eating at Mancy's for over 20 years.
"It's always been a staple here. A lot of my family has spent some special occasions here. I have my graduation dinner over this way. My parents, they host a lot of their work activities over this way," said Zalecki.
Zalecki now lives in Orlando, Florida, but on this Saturday in August he came all the way back to Toledo just to have his birthday celebration at Mancy's.
"It's the place to be. There's a reason I came back. You know, it's dinners like this. It's special. It's a moment. It's a good moment," said Zalecki.
Mancy's is hoping to be around for another hundred years, serving up hand cut steaks, and making new generations of customers happy.
