LEIPSIC, Ohio — A Putnam County community came together to clean up debris after a tornado briefly touched down Tuesday afternoon and tore up a property in Leipsic.
"I always wanted to witness a tornado, but I didn't want it to be my sister's place," said Linda Berry, who was helping clean up her sister's property after the EF-0 tornado damaged her home that was recently built by the family and destroyed a shed.
Berry was at her mom's house when she saw the tornado Tuesday afternoon.
"I looked over at my sister's place that's not even a year old, and I said 'holy crap,'" Berry said. "My sister was in complete shock. She put her tears and sweat into this house and just to watch it get wiped out is absolutely devastating."
But only a few hours later, friends and family came out to help them pick up the pieces.
"I work across the road and actually heard the tornado go through," said Spencer Dray, a family friend who helped clean up Tuesday. "(I) came out, saw the funnel cloud and everything. It's a devastation what happened."
Dray was one of many who helped the family recover from the tornado.
"There's probably almost a hundred cars here," he said. "That's what we do, come and help out."
Berry said seeing so many people answer the call to help was comforting.
"There are people here that I didn't even know," Berry said. "It's just crazy the amount of people that are coming, helping."
Berry said a lot of her family, like her parents and brother, lives on Road H5 where her sister does, and while she's devastated at what happened, she's glad the tornado didn't damage more houses.
No injuries were reported from the tornado.
