Delivery driver helps save woman from fiery crash

The delivery driver was able to pull the unconscious woman from the burning car. Both women were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Two people were taken to a local hospital after crashing into a traffic light poll early Wednesday morning, causing the car to catch fire.

This happened at the intersection of North Summit Street and the Craig Street Bridge. The driver of the car crashed straight into a metal traffic pole before the car burst into flames.

One woman managed to get out of the vehicle but a second woman was trapped inside. That’s when a Door Dash driver saw the accident and jumped into action. The delivery driver was able to pull the unconscious woman from the burning car.

"She was unconscious," said Robert Chamberlin, the Door Dash driver that helped the women. "I went around to the passenger's side to pull her out and it was already an inferno, it was hot."

Chamberlain continued, "I saw the car hit the pole, one of the streetlights was laying in the street, the car was on fire. Did a quick U-turn, got out and ran up to the car. I had to pull the one woman out who was unconscious."

Both women were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Toledo Edison crews were out to repair the damaged lights.
