DEFIANCE COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle injury crash that happened around 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 in Tiffin Township.
According to authorities, the crash occurred after a a Pontiac G5 driving north on Christy Road stopped at a stop sign before proceeding to turn on to Banner School Road, failing to yield to a Blue Bird school bus.
Investigators believe the Pontiac was then struck by the bus, causing it to travel off the southeast side of the intersection, where it struck a utility pole.
The school bus, identified as Northeastern Local School Bus #5, was driver by a 61-year-old from Defiance. No kids were reported to be on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver sustained a minor injury, and was treated on scene.
First responders stated that the driver of the Pontiac, a 45-year-old from Defiance, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Both drivers were wearing their safety belts at the time of the collision. Authorities stated that alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash.
No charges have been filed in relation to the incident at this time.
