University of Toledo's 2024 campus master plan update receives resolution approval from Board of Trustees

The $300 million in investments will feature a new welcome center and state-of-the-art science building.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Over $300 million in investments are being poured into the future of the University of Toledo's campus.

On Wednesday, UToledo's Board of Trustees approved a resolution that supports the latest 2024 update to the university's campus master plan

"The University of Toledo has a proud history of being a transformative force in our region and in the lives of our students, of our faculty, of our staff and of the patients that we care for," senior associate vice president of administration Jason Toth said. "This is a great opportunity for us to invest into what we have so we can continue to support the community and generations to come."

The 2024 update is to the university’s previous 10-year campus master plan approved in 2017.

Some of the spotlights within the plan include a brand new welcome center, which intends to move student support services to the front of campus, as well as a new state-of-the-art science building.

"It's been quite some time since we built a new facility, and the facilities that we currently have in our natural science and mathematics area are old, outdated, and unfortunately they are taxed from an infrastructure standpoint," Toth said. "We really need to be thinking about a new direction-forward thinking about how we can support students and learning in the future."

Other renovations include the student union on the main campus, renovations to Mulford Library to serve as a student union on the health-science campus, as well as improvements to Carlson Library.

According to the university, the updated campus master plan will be phased in during the next five years. UToledo is working with consulting firm Smith Group, who collaborated with them on the 2017 multiple campus master plan.
