Unions sign tentative agreement with Hollywood Casino

Both the United Steelworkers and United Auto Workers represent around 800 workers at Hollywood Casinos in Toledo and Columbus.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Local unions United Steel Workers and United Auto Workers have avoided a work stoppage and signed a tentative agreement with Hollywood Casino Toledo, the unions' joint bargaining council said Thursday.

Specific details of the tentative agreement have not yet been released.

Union workers had been on a contract extension since the original contract expired on Dec. 1. The extension was set to expire at midnight on Friday.

"With this agreement we are able to bring you back a contract with respectable increases in wages, additional holiday, improvements and clarification in a lot of the language and numerous other improvements," the bargaining council said.

The bargaining council said it will provide union workers with a date, time and location for an informational meeting and a ratification vote.

USW 1-346 President Jim Witt said last week that a strike was not out of the question because "these workers deserve a fair contract now."

USW and UAW, which have been representing about 800 workers as part of a joint council at Hollywood Casinos in Toledo and Columbus for almost 10 years, have been in a contract stalemate with Toledo's Hollywood Casino.
