TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo Medical Center's former CEO Dan Barbee will return to lead the institution after more than four years away, the university said in a publication Thursday.
According to UToledo, Barbee returned to his position as the institution's Chief Executive Officer Friday. Barbee was previously the CEO of UTMC from 2016 to 2020, after which he worked in leadership positions for Mercy Health.
After Barbee's departure from UTMC, he was replaced as CEO by Rick Swaine, who was previously the medical center's chief financial officer. In the publication, UTMC did not provide a reason for Swaine's departure from the position.
“Dan has a long relationship with UToledo going back to 2011 and his leadership experience in healthcare, and at UTMC specifically, will be an asset during this period of transition,” UToledo Interim President Matt Schroeder said in the publication. “We have an important role in our community as an academic medical center and we are committed to ongoing efforts to optimize UToledo Health to better support the health and well-being of our region.”
Barbee's previous roles at UTMC also include vice president of clinical services and chief operating officers, as well as other leadership positions. His education includes a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing, and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
