Toledo Fire & Rescue told WTOL 11 two electricians were doing maintenance around 1 a.m. when they crossed wires setting off the indoor sprinklers.

TOLEDO, Ohio — UPDATE: The following story has been edited to include new information from UTMC made available after standard power was restored.

The University of Toledo Medical Center began running on generators early Wednesday morning after an electrical incident set off sprinklers that flooded several floors of the hospital.

Toledo Fire & Rescue crews at the scene told WTOL two electricians were doing maintenance work on the 8th floor around 1 a.m. when they crossed some wires that set off the indoor sprinkler system.

The 8th floor as well as others below it were flooded with water as a result.

No one was hurt and no patients were affected.

Regular power was restored at 7 a.m. Wednesday. As a precaution, UTMC said they have canceled surgeries and cardiac procedures for the day. Those whose appointments were affected have been notified, the hospital said.

All UTMC clinics will remain open and the majority of the hospital's outpatient services were unaffected.

UTMC’s Emergency Department remains open.
