SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Springfield Township and Sylvania fire departments responded to a fire alarm call in Fox Creek Apartments on North McCord Road shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.
Upon arrival, smoke could be seen pouring out of the eves and front door of the apartment. After forcing down the front door, Springfield fire personnel found the male victim inside the apartment.
He was then removed from the structure with the help of responders from the Lucas County Sheriff's Office.
Emergency responders on scene told WTOL 11 that the Springfield Township man was transported to a local hospital by EMS Life Squad after suffering smoke inhalation and burns.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State of Ohio Fire Marshal, but responding personnel state that the fire stemmed from the kitchen.
No visible damage was done to the exterior of the apartment complex.
The Springfield Fire Department stated that the fire was contained to the single unit and no other residents were displaced.
Editors note: a previous version of this story said the fire occurred at Venetian Woods Apartment complex.
