TOLEDO, Ohio —
A new roof is in progress for The Victory Center in Toledo.
The Victory Center, located off Central Avenue, provides wellness services to thousands of cancer patients every year. They offer non-medical programs like art therapy, yoga and massages. There are also support groups and counseling options for patients and their families.
All the services offered are free and to keep offering them, the center needs to have a safe building.
The building was purchased two years ago. When it was bought, a new roof was something they knew would be eventually needed as the roof was old and leaky.
A new roof is a huge expense though, costing around $125,000, according to The Victory Center's development officer Jason Griffin.
The Victory Center received money from grants, the Anderson Fund Supporting Organization, the Rotary Club of Toledo, the Stranahan Foundation and individual donors to help pay for the new roof.
"We were able to raise almost $100,000 towards our new roof and that almost paid for the entire thing, which is wonderful," Griffin said.
Construction on the roof began this week and should be finished within the next week. Damschroder Roofing is completing the work for the facility. While construction is in progress, the center will stay open and continue providing services to patients.
"They are literally putting a new roof over our heads to help support this building where we can help so many people, and it's just such an unbelievable thing," Griffin said.
The Victory Center also has satellite locations in Perrysburg and Defiance.
