ATTICA, Ohio — The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall has made its way to Seneca County.
The wall will be displayed at Seneca East Local Schools, located at 13343 U.S. 224 in Attica, beginning Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 9 at 8 a.m.
It will be open to the public 24 hours a day, except on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 3 p.m. to midnight. During that time, it will be open to participants, attendees and volunteers of the Stars, Stripes & Lights cross country meet that evening.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 and races will happen throughout the night with the last one starting at 11:55 p.m. Seneca East schools said over 2,000 runners will be participating and military recruiting booths will be set up on site.
According to Seneca East schools, each race will start with fireworks and there will be a special ceremony of remembrance during the meet where skydivers will be landing during the National Anthem.
In addition to the memorial wall, Seneca East schools said they will host a pinning ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. for any veteran who served in the U.S. Armed Forces between 1955 and 1975.
The district said there is no need to RSVP and any veterans wishing to be pinned are asked to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. to check in at the white tent that will be located on the west side of the memorial wall.
The pinning ceremony will include a remembrance of 27 Vietnam veterans from Seneca County who were killed in action.
