TOLEDO, Ohio — Leaders at Washington Local Schools are already going through the 'Reset and Restart' guide for education after Gov. Mike DeWine's announcement Thursday.
"I think the governor helped us out a little bit by strengthening the resolve that, locally, most superintendents were already having about keeping our staff safe, about keeping our students safe, and that was masks," Washington Local Superintendent, Dr. Kadee Anstadt said.
She said, DeWine's recommendations will help their teams formulate the safest plans bring kids back into buildings.
Just 24 hours after the announcement, they have already started going through the guide so they can inform families on their plans as soon as possible.
"July 22 we have a special board meeting and one of the purposes of that board meeting will be to review plans with the community. It'll still be a draft at that point because we realize right up until school starts we might have to make a different decision," Anstadt said.
Another thing she'd like to have considered during that meeting is the possibility of bringing kids back slowly and in small groups, instead of all at once
According to her, if they can do that over the first few days of school, it will help individualize how the new procedures will work.
Many families may be comfortable bringing their kids back, she said and others might not.
To accommodate, their district will have in-person teaching and a new virtual school option. She believes hybrid schooling might play a role as well.
Her weekly updates will also continue until school begins so families know what plans the district is working on.
