TOLEDO, Ohio — After more than 150 days without a contract, the Teachers Association of Washington Local Schools (TAWLS) and the Washington Local district have reached a tentative agreement, according to a statement from a district spokesperson.

The district spokesperson offered the following statement regarding the agreement:

"After a collaborative negotiation process, TAWLS and Washington Local are pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached that both values our teachers and respects the hardworking taxpayers who support our schools. Both sides share a commitment to our ultimate focus – our students and their growth. This agreement positions us to move into the New Year united and focused on the future."

The agreement came 13 days after the district held a no confidence vote in the district, in which 96% of the nearly 500 members of the union who voted stated that they do not have confidence in the board of education.

Due to the tentative nature of the agreement, the district also said they would wait until TAWLS votes in January on the agreement to make further comment.

Contract negotiations for the union and district began in March. The contract ended in July.

On Monday, WLS students staged a walkout in support of TAWLS.
