TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo Department of Public Utilities issued a water boil advisory affecting nearly 800 customers in south and west Toledo Friday.
Officials said in a press release that the advisory was issued as a precaution to protect public health during a repair or disruption to water service, during which water could become contaminated.
Toledo Water Distribution said they did not have evidence at this time of water system contaminated. Testing is underway to determine water quality.
As of Friday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m., the water boil advisory is in effect until Sunday, Jan. 1 at 5 p.m. Until then, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making formula, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food in the affected area.
WTOL 11 will provide updates when more information becomes available, or if a water boil advisory is lifted or extended.
Per the city of Toledo, the water boil advisory affects the following area:
The north side of South Ave. from I-475 to Holland Sylvania Rd., the west side of Holland Sylvania Rd. from South Ave. to Hill Ave., McTigue Dr. from Hill Ave to Nebraska Ave., Nebraska Ave. from McTigue Dr. to I-475, and I-475 from Nebraska Ave. to South Ave.
If you live in this area, officials ask that you do the following to ensure the quality of your water.
- Flush all taps used for drinking and cooking by running cold faucets for at least 3 minutes.
- Boil the water for 3 minutes and cool before using (or use bottled water). Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making formula, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. You may resume normal tap water use at that time unless notified that the advisory is extended.
- If your water appears discolored, avoid washing clothes or using the hot water taps until you have run the cold water faucets and the water clears.
