TOLEDO, Ohio — A single-vehicle crash killed a dump truck driver early Tuesday evening on I-475 westbound.
All lanes had closed around 5 p.m. due to the crash and remained closed for several hours, with the right lane remaining closed into Wednesday morning for repairs.
The crash involved a dump truck being driven with its bed up, which struck an overhead sign and the Holland Sylvania Road overpass, according to a release by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The impact resulted in the bed detaching and landing in the right lane of I-475 while the truck, driven by 64-year-old Michael Lashuay of Temperance, Michigan, struck the median wall twice and then hit the wall of a railroad overpass.
Lashuay was ejected from the truck and died on the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation and impairment isn't believed to be a factor.
