Everything you need to know about SNAP and TANF benefits ending in February: How to reapply

The redetermination waiver for food assistance and cash assistance programs, commonly known as SNAP and TANF, will be ending later next month.
In Ohio, February SNAP benefits were issued on Jan. 16. February benefits do not have to be spent by Jan. 20. There is no change to the spending/usage requirements of these benefits. These benefits are intended to ensure recipients can shop for food in February.

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — The redetermination waiver for food assistance and cash assistance programs, commonly known as SNAP and TANF, will be ending on Feb. 28, 2024, according to the Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services.

Redetermination interview appointment letters will be mailed out to Lucas County residents with information regarding redetermination interviews. Interviews will begin on March 1, 2024.

How do I reapply?

Residents who require a redetermination interview for SNAP or TANF will also receive communication via ROBO-call to alert you of your interview date. Some residents may receive a text alerting them as well.

Information regarding your benefits account can also be accessed through the Self-Service Portal (SSP) at www.benefits.ohio.gov. The SSP will also give applicants access to the 7204 form that is required to be filled out by those who reapply.

Once the 7204-reapplication form is completed, benefit applicants must complete and interactive interview with an eligibility specialist. The interview must be conducted on your scheduled date or before the last day of the month that your SNAP or TANF benefits expire.

Applicants will also have to submit income and expense documents for verification to ensure that the case budget lists the correct amounts.

Why must I Interview in 2024?

SNAP/TANF redetermination interviews were temporarily paused in March of 2023.

This waiver resulted in a revision of the 7204-reapplication form for SNAP, TANF and childcare benefits. With the waiver ending at the end of February 2024, Lucas County Department of Jobs and Family Services will be scheduling redetermination interviews.

Benefit recipients are expected to contact the agency to complete the redetermination interview to maintain ongoing benefits.
