TOLEDO, Ohio — With Christmas officially over, many households will spend the next several days taking down decorations - Christmas trees included. Here's where, when and how you can recycle or dispose of your tree in various communities in northwest Ohio.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the city of Toledo Department of Transportation listed several Christmas tree recycling locations:
- Bowman Park - Jackman Road south of Laskey Road
- Detwiler Park - Manhattan Boulevard and Summit Street
- Jermain Park - Upton Avenue and N. Cove Boulevard
- Ravine Two Park - Off Dearborn Avenue
- Byrne Park - Byrne Road south of Glanzman Road
Note: Due to ongoing construction, Schneider Park is not being used as a Christmas tree recycling location this year.
The city of Bowling Green will pickup Christmas trees beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023 for a one-week collection period. Collection is not connected to your usual refuse/recycling schedule.
Per the city website, trees should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. the Monday of the scheduled collection week; all decorations, lights, metals and stands must be removed. Trees should not be left in bags.
City officials said once crews complete a street, they will not return to it.
Hancock County
Hancock County residents can drop off their non-artificial Christmas trees at one of two recycling locations on Dec. 27 and Jan. 17.
- Hancock County Landfill - 3763 County Road 140, Findlay, OH 45840 (lot south of the shop, signs are posted)
- Kaleidoscope Farms - 14841 County Road 54, Mount Cory, OH 45868
Maumee
The Maumee Public Service Department will pick up trees beginning Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Jan. 15. Trees should be placed on the curb in the lawn, not the street.
Maumee is only recycling real trees. Trees should be stripped of all decorations and should not be placed in a tree bag.
Perrysburg
Curbside collection of Christmas trees in Perrysburg will begin on Monday, Jan. 9 and last throughout the week. Crews will pickup trees the same day as residents' usual scheduled garbage collection day. Trees will not be collected in alleys.
Port Clinton
African Safari Wildlife Park is offering an eco-conscious tree recycling opportunity that benefits animals as well as consumers.
Trees can be dropped off at a designated area in the park's main parking lot. Donations will be accepted daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 7.
Officials say donated trees will be used as enrichment for animals like alpacas, bison, cattle and deer. For the safety of the animals, remove lights, decorations, ornaments and other potential hazards prior to donation. Artificial trees will not be accepted.
Rossford
The city of Rossford collects Christmas trees smaller than six feet as a part of normal collection service at no additional charge. Crews will pick up trees stripped of all decorations placed on the curb during regularly scheduled collection beginning the day following Christmas through the second week in January.
Sandusky
The city of Sandusky announced their Christmas tree pick-up schedule in a Facebook post on Monday. Tree pickup is organized by location, which can be seen in the post embedded below.
The service will run from Monday, Jan. 9 to Friday, Jan. 13. All trees must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day and must not be placed in the street. All decorations must be removed.
Sylvania
Sylvania residents can place trees on the curb for pickup beginning Jan. 2 through Jan. 31. All decorations must be removed. Tree bags are also not permitted for pickup.
