Woodmore football away game canceled after shooting on Cleveland school's campus

The Woodmore schools superintendent said they were informed a shooting happened on John Adams College and Career Academy's campus as the team was arriving.

CLEVELAND — Woodmore High School's football game in Cleveland was canceled Friday after a reported shooting on the campus of John Adams College and Career Academy.

According to a social media post from the Woodmore Local Schools superintendent, the district was informed a gun was discharged during an alleged altercation between two students on the perimeter of the school's campus as the Wildcats were arriving by bus to the school in southeast Cleveland.

Schaeffer said the team was expected to arrive back at Woodmore High School around 6:15-6:30 p.m. on Friday.

"The safety and security of our students is our top priority. We are grateful for the quick actions of law enforcement., our football coaches and the home school administrative team. We appreciate your patience as we gathered pertinent details to share with you," Schaeffer's statement says.

Woodmore cheerleaders were also en route to Cleveland for the game but were redirected back to Elmore after the district learned of the shooting and never arrived at the scene.

Woodmore school administrators will meet with the football players on Monday to answer questions and provide any needed support, Schaeffer said.
