MAUMEE, Ohio — The City of Maumee was busy on Saturday responding to a fuel spill into the Maumee River.

According to a social media post by the City of Maumee shortly after noon, the city was working to clean up and contain a spill from the storm pipe near the city’s White Street parking lot.

Officials say crews responded to the spill immediately after it was discovered and were working with the EPA and Northwest Ohio Environmental Services to determine the origin of the leak.

On Saturday afternoon, WTOL 11 spoke with workers on the scene who said there was a spill near the intersection of Conant and The Anthony Wayne Trail on Friday which eventually reached the river on Saturday.

Booms and absorbent material was also placed at the river’s edge to contain the spill.

The city also says the Coast Guard have been notified of the leak and are assisting.

The White Street parking lot abuts the towpath along the Maumee River near White Street and Harrison Street.
