YMCA of Sandusky County offering free swim lessons to second graders at Fremont City, Bishop Hoffman schools

The YMCA of Sandusky County said two more sessions are available this school year, including ones starting on Jan. 6 and March 3.

FREMONT, Ohio — The YMCA of Sandusky County is offering free swim lessons to second graders at Fremont City and Bishop Hoffman schools.

The YMCA said the free swim lessons are from grant funds from Step Into Swim to be able to offer the swim lessons to second graders in both districts.

“Fremont City Schools is excited to partner with the YMCA to offer swim lessons to our 2nd grade students throughout the district at no cost to families. This important life skill will benefit our students into their adulthood. We sincerely hope many families take advantage of this opportunity,” Fremont City Schools Superintendent Denice Hirt said.

According to the YMCA, the first free session is underway and two more sessions are available this school year, including sessions starting on Jan. 6 and March 3.

The YMCA said second grade students from both districts can be transported to the YMCA after school and then be picked up later by a guardian following the completion of the lessons.

“Meeting community needs is at the heart of everything we do at the Y,” Jeremiah Wagner, YMCA of Sandusky County CEO said. “Collaborations like Learn to Swim would not be possible without great partners like our local schools or donors like Step Into Swim.”

Guardians can sign up their second graders for the program and get information on school transportation HERE.
