LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Hundredsof vacant homes in Toledo are set to be demolished soon, thanks to a grantreceived by the Lucas County Land Bank.
Countyofficials announced Wednesday which properties will be torn down. Some of thehomes have been sitting empty for years, and people who live near some of themsay the properties are much more than just eyesores.
Residentsin the Asbury Park neighborhood say the vacant homes there are dangerous andthey've seen people trying to get inside them. The vacant homes attract crimeand bring property values down for the neighborhood.
There areabout five homes in the Asbury Park area set to be demolished by the county.Neighbors there say they can't wait to see it happen.
"I thinkit's going to make the property value go up for our neighborhoods and maybebring more families in here," said resident Frank Hebert. "If they see itcleaned up, maybe it's going to entice more people to start moving in."
The LandBank's demolition project is expected to be complete by June of 2016.
