Man accused of impersonating Lucas County Sheriff’s Deputy apprehended

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office says a man accused of pretending to be a deputy on the force has been taken into custody.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Lucas County Sheriff's Office says a man accused of pretending to be a deputy on the force has been taken into custody.

The department announced the arrest of 45-year-old Joseph Earl Steward on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon.

According to police Steward had been telling business that he is a deputy with the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and asking for donations. Once he received the money, he provided a false donor receipt, according to the sheriff's office.
