Mayor wants to revamp Tiffin into 'college town'

The mayor of Tiffin wants to give the city a new image as a "college town." While there are two universities in the area, leaders say there is no real interaction or connection between them and the local community.

TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) - The mayor of Tiffin wants to give the city a new image as a "college town."

Tiffin is home to Tiffin University and Heidelberg University. Still, leaders say there is no real interaction or connection between the colleges and the local community. Mayor Aaron Montz is on a mission to change that.

Masters students at Heidelberg University are conducting a study on how to bridge the gap between the city and universities.

"The city of Tiffin has essentially been a city with three islands: One of each being each of the universities separate from each other, and then the city being separate from each of the universities. The goal is to make this one entity that's constantly working together," explained Montz.

According to Montz, the city hosts numerous festivals year-round, but there's very little turnout from college students. The same can be said for the pair of campuses.

Montz believes if Tiffin becomes more "college friendly," it will increase enrollment at the universities, and in turn, bring more revenue to the city.

Phase one for the city's rebranding is under way by the mayor and a student advisory council.
