Lenawee County judge orders Sean 'Diddy' Combs to pay $100M in sexual assault case after failing to appear in court

Court records indicate the rapper failed to appear in court on Monday.
The 114-page complaint is from a former adult film star who says she worked for Combs from 2004 to 2009.

DETROIT — A Michigan judge ordered rapper Sean "P. Diddy" Combs to pay $100 million Monday after he was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a man in 1997, according to CBS Detroit

The Lenawee County judge ordered Combs to pay the amount after he failed to appear in court. Michigan court records indicate he was due to appear on Monday for a motion hearing. The money was awarded to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, 51, who is currently incarcerated.

CBS Detroit obtained court documents showing Cardello-Smith claimed the incident occurred while he was bartending at a Detroit-area restaurant. Combs then invited Cardello-Smith to an after party, documents say, where he was urged to engage in sexual activity with multiple women.

Cardello-Smith claimed Combs handed him a glass of alcohol, which he drank, and then fell unconscious.

In the document, Cardello-Smith claimed he woke up and saw Combs having sex with a woman. Combs then told Cardello-Smith, "I did this to you, too," CBS Detroit reported.

Cardello-Smith is currently incarcerated for convictions of criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping, CBS Detroit reported. Combs' attorney denied his client ever having known Cardello-Smith, adding that he and Combs would pursue having the judgment "swiftly dismissed."

Cardello-Smith's lawsuit was filed against Combs on June 10, court records show.

Combs has faced lawsuits from multiple women, alleging sexual assault and abuse, which Combs denies. Howard University cut ties with him in May after a 2016 video surfaced that appeared to show him assaulting R&B singer Cassie.
