TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Helps Ukraine is a constant supporter of Ukrainian citizens coming to the United States to escape the war against Russia.
The group extends their support beyond borders, sending essential aid such as food, medical supplies, and educational resources to their compatriots who bravely remain in Ukraine fighting for their freedom.
Alona Matchenko, the founder and president of Toledo Helps Ukraine, made a significant impact at the American Coalition for Ukraine summit. This summit, held April 12-16 in Washington, DC, brought together advocates from 47 states to champion the cause of Ukraine.
“We will advocate not just to lawmakers but to all Americans. The message is that the value of human lives is beyond politics. The United States can successfully address the issue in Ukraine while working on other issues simultaneously. It is not a matter of solving one problem while another is on hold,” said Matchenko.
The group also advocated for H.R. 4175, also known as REPO for Ukranians, which stands for the Rebuilding Economic Prosperity and Opportunity for Ukranians Act. If passed, this would help to continue support.
“We are thankful for this opportunity to be here where I am, and it's only possible because of the support of people in Toledo who continue to support me. This fight, all of this media turn away from Ukraine; Toledo never stops supporting our organization and our country, so from the bottom of our hearts of all of these people here and more who are waiting for us in Ukraine to do something, we are so grateful,” said Matchenko.
Matchenko says she is grateful for Toledo’s support and will continue to serve the people of her home country.
