TOLEDO (WTOL) - Saturday is National Prescription Drug-Take-Back Day and local police and health officials want you to hand over any unused prescription drugs.
The goal is make sure the old prescriptions aren’t misused or end up in the hands of children. You can drop off unused medications from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Members of law enforcement are encouraging you to check your cabinets.
“It’s a way for us to get large amounts of those type drugs off the streets and out of the medicine cabinets,” said Sylvania Police D.A.R.E. officer Kevin Pooley.
Often times the drugs that are dropped off are drugs people did not even know they had. Situations like the death of a family member or leftover prescribed medication are just a few examples.
As the opioid crisis becomes more pressing in northwest Ohio, days like Friday become more important. Locally the Sylvania Community Action Team is making it easier for you to drop off your unwanted drugs at Kroger, along with other police departments throughout our area.
“We really have a variety of places for individuals in Lucas County to dispose of their medications without any questions. So they just come in, they dump out their pills, some of the locations you can drive up and give it to the individuals that are waiting for them,” said Deb Chany Executive Director of S.C.A.T.
