FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - New information from the Army Corps of Engineers was released to the public this week and people living along the Blanchard River are slowly seeing the final plan of what could be done to prevent future flooding.
On Wednesday, the corps held a public meeting showing the possible new 100 year flood mark if their study findings are implemented.
People in the agricultural community are unhappy with the plan for two reasons; the Eagle Creek diversion channel would cut farm land southwest of Findlay in half, and the proposed levies near the Findlay Reservoirs would displace flood waters out of town, but into more agricultural land east of Findlay.
Local officials are optimistic that the corps have been listening to all residents and will implement a plan that is best suited for the overall good of the area.
Brian Robertson, the Hancock County Commissioner, is glad that the community and the corps are working together.
“I think most importantly, we're having a dialogue and input from the community, and from people with all perspectives of flood mitigation from the community. I think going forward, we have to make sure that we as a community work with the corps to shape the homestretch of the project, and what's going to make the best fit for us for the next 100 years,” said Roberston.
The review period for public comment on this new flood study information will last for the next 45 days.
