NORTHWOOD, OH (Toledo News Now) - Another local Sears store will be closing soon.
According to Howard Riefs with Sears, the Northwood location will close to the public in mid-July. Until then, the store will remain open for customers. The store will begin its liquidation sale on April 25.
The adjoining Woodville Mall has been closed for some time and has been demolished, without any plans for redevelopment. As a result, the Sears store will close, as well.
Riefs says store closures are part of a series of actions taken to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust asset base, and accelerate the transformation of its business model. The company hopes the actions will better enable the brand to focus investments on serving customers and members through integrated retail.
The store in Northwood has 36 associates, according to Riefs. Associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at other Sears or Kmart stores. Most of the associates are part-time or hourly.
This is not the first store to close in the area. Back in 2011, four Sears and Kmart stores closed.
